Boxford PTO 2020/2021 Executive Board

I became the PTO Co-President in the fall of 2019.  I have loved being a part of a great group of people who work hard to make our children’s education a fantastic and memorable experience.  My daughter, Jordyn is in 6th grade, and my son Landon is in 3rd grade.

My experiences in the Boxford Community include PTO Co-President, PTO Volunteer Coordinator, Room Parent, and assisting with the Spring Fundraiser, and volunteering on many other school committees (ie: Sponsor A Child, Color Run, etc.)

I grew up in New Jersey, and went to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.  After graduation, I started working at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, where I spent the next 13 years in various HR and operational leadership positions.

As the PTO Co-President, I love working with the principals, teachers, administration, parents, and children to make our community stronger and to enhance our educational platform.

I began serving on the PTO board as Secretary in 2018 and am excited to be PTO Co-President for the 2020/2021 school year. My husband Kevin and I moved to Boxford in 2015 and have two children in the Boxford schools; Scarlett is entering third grade and Liam is entering first grade.  Our oldest child is a loveable 12-year old golden retriever black lab mixed dog named Bear, who I think wishes he could ride the school bus with the kiddos. Kevin and I both grew up in the city and always knew that we wanted to settle down and raise a family “in the country”. We absolutely love living in Boxford and all of the opportunities here to enjoy the great outdoors. Our family enjoys hiking, kayaking, outdoor movies, camp fires, swimming at Stiles Pond, and cooking together.

I work full time from home as a Sales Consultant in higher education health insurance and much of my passion is around accessible healthcare, particularly behavioral health, for adolescents and young adults. Being on the PTO has been a wonderful opportunity for me to get involved in our children’s education and enrichment – all while making new friends in this fantastic community.  As PTO Co-President this year, I am excited to work with the PTO board, principals, teachers, and the community to come up with innovative ideas and enrichment opportunities to keep our children engaged, inspired, and happy.

Hi!  My name is Amanda Bruce. My husband John and I are the parents of two wonderful kids, Fiona and Danny. My daughter Fiona is going into third grade and my son Danny is going into second. In our free time, we enjoy attending musicals, taking care of our goats and chickens, and exploring the outdoors in New Hampshire.

This is my first time on the PTO and I’m honored to be the Board’s Secretary.  I work as a therapist and am co-owner of Counseling Services of Greater Boston.  During quarantine, I helped create and organize the children’s Birthday parades.

I truly enjoy seeing the children and their families having fun at all the events I will be involved with.  I am very excited for the opportunity to serve on the Boxford PTO over the upcoming year!

My name is Melissa Blaney and I am the incoming Treasurer for the PTO. My husband, Colin, and I have lived in Boxford for almost nine years now with our three girls. Our daughters, Molly (8), will be going into 3rd Grade and Grace (11), will be going into 6th Grade at Spofford and will be new to the school district this fall. We also have another daughter, Emma (14), who has been at MASCO for two years now and she will be starting her Freshman year at MASCO. We are so excited for our younger two to be part of this amazing school system!

This will be my first year as the PTO Treasurer for the Boxford PTO, but I served on the Board as Treasurer for three years at our former school. Although I have not participated in any of the past events here in Boxford, I am looking forward to working with this amazing group! I have learned through prior experience that the best way to get involved with your children- and to make some friends along the way- is to volunteer at school. I am excited to be joining the PTO and hope that I will get to meet lots of you during our PTO events this school year!

I am currently a stay at home mom and before that I worked in advertising for over 12 years. Some of the things that our family likes to do in our free time are dance parties, bike rides, playing golf, hiking the trails in Boxford (that we have most recently discovered), going to the beach, and skiing. We are those crazy people who pray for snow!!!

Although this year is going to be a challenging one on so many levels, I am optimistic that as a collective group we can make this year awesome for our kids.

Hi, I’m Julie! I moved to Boxford in 2016 with my husband Paul, and our two daughters Lorali (9th grade), and London (3rd grade). This will be my 4th year serving on the PTO Board as Fundraiser Chair, and organizing school related events in the community, such as, the annual Halloween party, and Ziti With Your Sweetie. I have found a love for all things Disney, and try to bring that same love and magic to each event. I am also one of the head coaches of the MASCO Youth Cheerleading teams, so the best place to find me in the Fall is on the football field!

I received my Associates Degree in Education and have enjoyed being a substitute teacher for the Tri-Town District over the past 3 years. I believe that one of the main roles of a teacher is to help each and every child in the classroom grow and achieve more and more of their potential in a cordial and safe environment. This will be a challenging year ahead for our Teachers and Students, but with an open mind, positive attitude, and high degree of caring and compassion, I believe we will all make it a great year!

Hello, my name is Nicole Payne. I have 3 children. Madeleine is a tenth grader, James Hayden is in 7th grade, and Nathan is in 3rd grade. I grew up in Exeter, NH, attended PEA, and received my BS degree in Animal Science from UNH. I met my husband Matt at Genetics Institute, now Pfizer, in Andover. We moved to North Carolina, near Raleigh when Madeleine was a year old, and that’s when I became a stay-at-home mom. Six years ago Pfizer moved us back to New England and we settled in Boxford.
I started volunteering as a way to meet people. Being a stay-at-home mom has given me the opportunity to support Boxford Elementary schools as a classroom parent, a volunteer for the Sponsor-a-Child and DASH programs, a Boxford PTO event volunteer, Boxford Box Tops Coordinator, Stop-and-Shop Rewards Coordinator, Staff Snacks Shopper, Volunteer Coordinator, and as the Co-Chair of the Fundraising Committee. I have also helped out as a Assistant Den Leader for the Cub Scouts in town. If you have a connection to scouting you probably know my family as we are all involved in the BSA.

I’m a mom, an early childhood educator, and a scientist. I grew up in western Massachusetts and went to school in Pennsylvania and California. I met my husband in grad school in California. We lived in Philadelphia, PA before moving to the area. We both work in science and education. We've lived in Boxford for nine years and have two children, Nora who is 12 and in 6th grade and Violet who is 6 and in 1st grade. We love being a part of this community.
I've volunteered at Cole and Spofford since my older daughter was in Kindergarten. Serving on the PTO Board has been a wonderful way to stay connected to the schools. This is my third year as co-chair of the Teacher Wishes program. Working with the teachers and principals in helping to facilitate the Teacher Wishes program has been a great experience. I love seeing the innovative ideas our wonderful teachers have for our children and I am grateful there is so much community support for our children's education.

We love to go biking, swim at Stiles and head up to Maine each summer. This is my second year on the PTO helping out with Teacher Wishes. I love working with such a great group of parents and teachers who are so caring and committed to making the most of our children’s education at Cole and Spofford. Fun side note about me, I went to Cole School too!

Hi, I'm Veronica!  I became the Curriculum Enrichment Co-Chair in 2019, a position that I’ve found to be extremely rewarding so far.  Being able to see the looks of joy on our children’s faces when they see a new science experiment, become immersed in an authors world, or performing with Sticks and Stones has made it a truly special experience.

My family moved to Boxford in 2017—we have 2 boys in the school system, Mason in 3rd and Julian is beginning kindergarten this year.  We also have a 1 year old bundle of furry energy named Scout that has proven to be an excellent hiker this year.  Our happy places are at the beach, digging in the dirt gardening, or on long hikes exploring new places.

This year school year will be unusual, but I’m looking forward to finding novel ways to support and enrich our children’s education along with my co-chair, Karthi.

Hi! My name is Karthi Streb, this is my first year on the PTO and I will be serving in the capacity of the Curriculum Enrichment Co-Chair. My husband Jesse and I moved our family to Boxford six years ago in part for the great school system. My daughter Sajel (9) will be a fourth-grader in Spofford this year, my son Bodhi (6) is starting first grade at Cole. We love outdoor recreations as a family- taking our dog Zephyr for hikes, going for bike rides, skiing in the winter, and enjoying time with our friends and family.
I have spent the last 17 years working in the field of public health. Throughout my career, I have always had a special focus on children's health and desire to work directly with kids. Last year I decided to take a chance and pursue a career change- I am in the second year of completing my Masters in School Adjustment Counseling and excited for the opportunity to work in a school system.
I have had the chance to support PTO events in the past including the Color Run, Winter Celebration, and the Annual Fundraiser. This will be an interesting and unique year for all of us. I am looking forward to working with the PTO, our teachers, and the community to find fun, creative, and engaging enrichment opportunities for the kids to help make the most of this school year!

This is my first school year serving on the PTO and I am thrilled to be serving as the Communications Co-Chair. I feel with the pandemic and so much change taking place around our children and throughout the world, it is a great time to be in a position of service.

I have two kiddos, Hawkins (8) in 3rd grade and Travers (5) in kindergarten.  I have always believed you cannot keep what you have without giving it away!  Now that both of my children have entered the school system it is important to be involved with the community to ensure our children’s school experience is rich and meaningful.   Knowing I am surrounded by likeminded women is essential and very rewarding.  Seeing what we can accomplish together is very fulfilling and sets a great example for our children.

I have been a Social Worker since 2005, working mostly within the not for profit sector.  In August 2018, our family moved to Boxford for my husband’s work.  I have been running my own non-profit consulting business since June 2019.  I currently sit on the Board of the Tri-Town Council, I am an active member in the Tri-Town Coalition, and pre-Covid19, I was working on getting my clinical license in the state of Massachusetts to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

An interesting fact about my school experience, I went to high school with Seth McFarlane (creator of The Family Guy), KT Tunstall and Lana Del Rey (musicians) and Lauren Santo Domingo (founder of online retailer Moda Operandi).  And many more (now) famous people.  You never know what the kid next to you will become!

My name is Caroline Sommer. My husband Joe and I have three wonderful daughters, Kendall who is in 9th grade, Avery who is in 7th grade and Emerson who is in 1st grade. We moved to Boxford in 2016, and absolutely love living here!

Prior to becoming a stay at home mom, I worked in PR and Marketing. I have enjoyed volunteering with each of my girls classes, and the PTO, in various capacities throughout the years, most recently having had the pleasure of becoming one of the Cole School Yearbook Editors. I am very excited for the opportunity to serve on the Boxford PTO as Communications Co-Chair.

Given the unpredictability of the year ahead of us, it will be so important to be creative and think outside of the box to continue providing unforgettable experiences for our kids. I am looking forward to working alongside the amazing group of mom’s on the PTO who are passionate about enhancing our students educational experience, and providing support to the teachers, and parents in our community.
