The Richard E. Byrd Elementary School was selected to receive the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Capacity Grant. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Home and School Association, parents and the school administration the Byrd Beautification Team will be receiving a $2000 grant to create a Pollinator Garden in our Serenity Garden. In addition to planting perennials and grasses native to this area, the garden will include a table and benches.
Many thanks to the team!

 #BelieveGenevieve

As you may have heard, in July, Charlotte Kipp's (2nd grade at Byrd) younger sister, Genevieve, was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Two-year old Genevieve was diagnosed with "ALL" (Acute lymphoblastic leukemia). Over the course of induction (the first 29 days of treatment), we learned that Genevieve has a rare and aggressive sub-type ("near haploid") that occurs in only .5% of cases and has a poor prognosis. This means Genevieve (and the whole Kipp family) will have a rough journey ahead of them.

Throughout the coming school year, there will be times when we, as a Byrd community, will be asked to pitch in and help and we know our community will come through. Liesel is really feeling the support and love from the community so far and it is truly lifting her up.

Liesel is a big believer in the power of positive thinking. So, if you see Liesel or Greg (or their sitter, Tina) at pick up or around school one day, be sure to stay positive and give her a big high five! (She'll sanitize her hand afterwards; don't take it personally - germs are the total enemy with a kid in chemo treatment!). Please, no medical talk, especially with any of the kids around. Just good thoughts and positive vibes, please.

If anyone has any questions or wants to share some thoughts, Bethany (Samantha's Mom) and I are here to help. Reach out to us anytime.

You can also stay up-to-date from this Facebook page, #BelieveGenevieve

Thank you.

I'm so proud to be a Byrd mom! Our HSA will be giving $2120 from us to the Canonico family. Thank you all but especially Supriya Kapur, Nadine Crago and Ed Hayward for organizing the dance and Danny Chong for donating the photos. I know Lisa is smiling
down.
