Dear Hillside Families,

In an effort to meet the unprecedented response to ASEP this session, we have added two more classes to the schedule for Wednesday.
In addition, to avoid website overcrowding we are piloting a new Lottery system where time you enter the lottery has no impact on your chances of getting a spot.
Please note that we do have limited number of spots and that the ASEP program has no means to accommodate all HES students, not this year and not in the past.
Thank you for your continued support!

LEGO Robotics by STEAM-TO-GO | Grades: K-4 | Wednesday 3:20-4:20pm | Tuition: $180 | Class capacity: 16

Combining hands-on LEGO bricks with easy-to-use coding software and inspiring STEM projects, LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 enables kids to explore the building blocks of coding. From simple drag and drop interfaces to developing more complex algorithms, kids explore the world around them and bring their ideas to life with code. LEGO WeDo enables students to develop computational thinking skills and transform them directly into programming solutions that interact with the real world. Kids will learn to use the motion and tilt sensors. As they advance in the course, they will learn to create simple animations on the computers that they control with their robots.

Carnival Skills by Team Makers | Grades: K-4 | Wednesday 3:20-4:20pm | Tuition: $180 | Class capacity: 16

Carnival Skill Games and Activities. During this club, you will get to challenge yourself and the rest of your club in fun, creative games each week. Some games require great hand-eye skill, others good aim, others some smarts, even others just luck. There will be kicking, throwing, tossing, dropping games of all sorts and sizes. AND, best of all, you will win carnival prizes each week as you play your games. For some activities you will participate by yourself, for many others, you will work with your team to get the highest score. Some of the games include, golf, soccer, hockey, frisbee, beanbag games, dice games, tossing games, and target games.

HOW TO SIGN UP: Introducing our Pilot Lottery System

There will be a lottery to get into these two new Wednesday classes. CLICK HERE to see lottery entry item for each class.

  • The price is listed as $0 because you are not purchasing a spot in the class, your are only placing yourself in the lottery
  • Go through the checkout process to finalize your lottery entry
  • Please make sure when you go into My Orders that you see an order that says 'paid' with 0 amount, and when you click on it you should see the name of the class and your child's name
  • You may enter each child into each lottery once

Lottery entry is open through Monday, Sept 27th at 8:00 PM.

  • There is no rush - there is no limit on how many people can enter the lottery, and your chances are equal whether you signed up on Friday or Monday at 7:45 PM.
  • All the names will go into a random drawing on Monday night. Those selected will be contacted by email and advised how to pay.
Once notified, you have 24 hours to pay for the class and secure their spot. If there are unclaimed spots, they will go to the next names on the same randomly generated list.

-- Do I still need to be a PTO member?

Yes. Lottery entry is available for PTO members only. For more information about membership CLICK HERE

-- Is the lottery really random?

Yes. We will place all the interested names in a computer generated spinner to produce the list of those who get into the class, as well as the alternate list in case anyone is no longer interested or does not pay to secure their spot. The computer has no vested interest in nor cares which kids get chosen.

-- Can you squeeze in another kid or two?

No. All of the classes have a maximum number of students. The maximum number of students is provided by the teachers or vendors. This year, the class sizes are capped smaller for Covid compliance, as per the guidelines suggested to the school by the district and the CDC. We cannot exceed the limits.

-- Can you guarantee that my kid can be with their friends or siblings in the class?

No. If your child can only go with their siblings or friends, and they don’t get in, feel free to decline your offered spot and it can go to the next name on the list.

-- I bought the Lottery for $0, is my kid in the class?

No, your kid is in the lottery.

-- I have more questions!

Please email the ASEP Co-Chairs at closterasep@gmail.com - and remember, you are contacting hardworking volunteers, who may be a parent from your kid's class, and who are here to put in place wonderful programs for our community. Now start writing.
